Youth Missions Weekend

About

Every year, sometime in Feb-April, we have our annual CBF Kentucky Youth Missions Weekend. Church from across the state gather in central Kentucky for worship, Bible studies, and serving the community through different projects. Usually the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky supplies a seminary student as the preacher for the weekend, and Georgetown College students help lead the Bible studies and missions projects. Each year the missions weekend is a great time for the students and adults alike. Students get to laugh, serve, and grow in their faith together. Most importantly they are reminded of the wide network of believers all around them. Doing missions work is an important part of our Baptist identity, and this weekend helps to instill that sense of importance in the next generation. It is a beautiful weekend where Georgetown College, Baptist Seminary of Kentucky, and CBF come together to in working to build up the communities we live in.

Our theme in 2018 was Serving Together. We strive to help the students understand how we are in this together, and that Christ has called us a body of believers to serve and care for those around us.

Youth Missions Weekend 2020

“Finding Jesus IRL”

March 20-22, 2020

Crescent Hill Baptist Church

Louisville, Kentucky

CBF Kentucky, Crescent Hill Baptist Church, and The Baptist Seminary of Kentucky are all excited to invite you and your youth group (grades 6-12) to the 2020 Youth Missions Weekend. Youth Missions Weekend is a weekend for youth to gather together for worship, fellowship, and a day of mission work in a local Kentucky community.

Theme: “Finding Jesus IRL” (In Real Life) - The weekend will focus on the idea of getting off our screens and getting to know the real Jesus, our real selves, and real others, “in real life”, or as abbreviated in teen text speak, “IRL”. Matthew 6:33 "Seek first the Kingdom of God…" is the theme verse. We will strive to put Jesus and authentic interactions with others first in our lives this weekend through fellowship, worship and service.

Mission Projects: One of the highlights of this weekend will be the mission projects groups participate in on Saturday. Students and chaperones will be assigned to mission project groups in the weeks leading up to this event, using an online document. More information will come closer to time. Potential sites at this time are WaterStep, Wayside Christian Mission, Habitat for Humanity, Olmsted Parks Conservancy, Louisville Grows, United Crescent Hill Ministries, Re:Center Ministries, Supplies Over Seas, St. John’s Center and others.

Cost: The cost is $40 with no lodging, or $60 with a one-night lodge stay and $75 for both nights. These costs include lodging (depending), four meals, mission project supplies, recreation, program costs, and a t-shirt. CBF KY, Crescent Hill Baptist, and BSK are working to keep the cost reasonable.

Supplies to Bring: Please bring a cooler if you have one available. We are also collecting used pairs of shoes in good condition (no mold, holes or rips) for WaterStep and medical supplies for SOS (more specifics to follow). Regardless of whether you are assigned to these sites, donations will go to the site with one of our groups. Please have your youth bring and wear shoes and clothes that are suitable for hard work. Some youth may be cleaning out a park after spring flooding (trash, mud etc.), some may be planting trees or clearing brush, and some may be painting or scrubbing. Others will cook meals and serve the homeless and those in recovery. Some may sort shoes or medical supplies. Please prepare for all possibilities and bring helpful tools: boots, garden shears, shovels, work gloves, etc.

Registration: You can begin registration by completing the form below. When you click submit, you will receive additional information to finalize your registration.

Final Registration Numbers and Payments Are Due March 1.

Lodging: Rooms will be at Laws Lodge, on Louisville Presbyterian Seminary’s Campus (2-3 people per room).

Meals: Your registration fee includes dinner on Friday, breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday. Your group will be responsible for meals on Sunday. Helpers are requested for prepping Saturday breakfast and dinner in the church kitchen. If your group would like to help cook, please volunteer.

Worship Leadership: We would love to have student participation in our worship services. If you have a student, or group of students, who would like to contribute to worship through music, arts, or other creative elements, please email Brittani Bair (brittani@chbcky.org) as soon as possible.

Party: On Saturday night, after worship, we will have an ice cream sundae party with exciting toppings, fun music and group games in the Fellowship Hall. If anyone wants to perform a talent/song we will have piano and microphone available also. You are welcome to bring other instruments as well.

Chaperones: Youth Mission Weekend would not be possible without adult chaperones volunteering their time. Youth Mission Weekend aims to be interactive for both youth and adults. Chaperones will be asked to take on a significant leadership role during the weekend, especially on the mission sites. This event can be just as meaningful for adults as it is for youth.

Each church is required to bring one (1) chaperone for every six (6) youth of each gender. Additional chaperones are welcome. Chaperone cost is the same as youth cost. All chaperones should be over nineteen (19). Thanks for your help in this area.

Transportation: The transportation you bring to camp will be used to transport youth to mission sites. Thus, drivers of fifteen (15) passenger vans must be twenty-five (25) year old. Other drivers should be twenty-one (21) or older.

We are looking forward to seeing your group in March! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email.

See You In Real Life,

Brittani Bair
